Footsie
Since childhood we’ve all dreamed of walking gracefully down the aisle and floating into the venue on the arm of your gorgeous new husband.
However, the dawning reality trying to actually walk in some serious heels can be a horrible and painful experience. Gone is the excitement of purchasing those fabulous wedding shoes, replaced by the fear of tottering to your ceremony, holding on to anything for support. If you’re worried that this nightmare will become a reality, just follow our simple guide and you’ll be the graceful bride you imagined
What type of shoe should I buy?
You must choose shoes that you will actually be able to walk in. It’s really easy to be dazzled by the vast amount of bejeweled heels available but remember comfort is far more important on your big day; you don’t want to be paying attention to your feet on your wedding night.
When shopping for wedding shoes, make sure they have straps for that extra ankle support. Avoid extravagant, flimsy heels which are too high and quite frankly dangerous!
Step by careful step
Step 1
Slip them on and stand in front of a mirror. It may sound ridiculous but it will get you used to the height and your posture. You’ll love the way you’ll look and wearing heels may not seem as awful as you first thought.
Step 2
Take a few steps. Start by taking a few steps, keeping your legs close together and maintaining your posture. Do this with slow deliberate steps on a carpeted floor, avoiding slippery surfaces.
Step 3
Try walking across the room and changing directions. Once you’re confident doing this then move onto a different surface, repeating steps one and two.
Step 4
Wearing heels on stairs. Always use the rail for extra support, ensuring that your entire shoe (heel and sole) lands firmly on each step.
Step 5
Dancing. If you know that you’ll be leading the first dance, then grab a sympathetic male and go through your steps. Move from side to side and turning on the spot. Avoid fast dancing and challenging moves or you’ll truly do yourself an injury! If this is too much of challenge, then simple remove your shoes or have some sparkly pumps to hand.
Step 6
Practice, practice, practice! This is only way you’ll be confident and competent in your heels. If you still find your shoes slippery or uncomfortable, you might want to add self-adhesive sole pads to the bottoms of your shoes, alternatively, you can use sandpaper to scuff the soles.
By following these simple steps you’ll be able to sashay into your reception being the centre of attention for all the right reasons.
