Newlyweds Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik employed a high level of security at their Pakistan reception

The much reported wedding between Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik and the subsequent celebrations have taken place and we can bring all the details from the much-talked grand reception.

The occasion took place at the Pakistan’s Hockey Club in Sialkot and reportedly cost 5 million rupees. 16 different kinds of flowers were used to decorate the vast stadium, and chefs from Lahore were brought in especially to create speciality desi and Punjabi cuisine for the wedding guests.

The lavish event was attended by 1000 invited guests, however 2000 people, many of potential gatecrashers, also showed up at the stadium attempting to get in.

Security surrounding the reception, or walima, was extremely strict as there has been a great deal of attention paid to the tennis star and cricket player since their engagement was announced. Guests at the reception weren’t even able to hand over gifts to the newlyweds due to security restrictions.

Private security guards were present at the entrance and only those with official invites were permitted to enter. However the security measures were so tight that some of the couple’s family members were not allowed in initially, although the situation was resolved after a group of relatives, already inside the venue, came to the rescue.

After the couple arrived in Pakistan for their wedding celebrations they had an unpleasant surprise waiting for them when it was revealed that a petition had been made against Shoaib alleging that the cricketer has been attempting to sell invites to his lavish reception for 15,000 rupees apiece.

However the allegations did little to dampen the happy occasion for pair who both looked stunning with the bride dressed in a green and maroon sari, and the groom in a sleek white sherwani.
